Get Rid of Pop-ups and Pop-underads

If you have read my previous post, I was ranting there that my site is warned by entrecard because of some nuisance pop-ups and pop-underads. I really freaked out as I don't want my account to be deleted from entrecard. I noticed too well about the pop-ups everytime I opened my site. There will be emerging windows of some online games "travian" and some other windows that I immediately closed whenever it showed up. Little did I know that it annoyed my visitors as sometimes it will get them 10 minutes fighting over those horrible exploding ads before getting over my main page. Well, Entrecard hates pop-up thus I was warned.

Thanks heavens for a fellow blogger who has a big heart and extended his help over this issue. I want to commend my gratitude to Dave Lucas who left messages over my tagboard and send some links about the issue of pop-ups. Through his advise I found out that the suspect is rankwidget.com . I have read this blog article which he has suggested me to read. The writer experienced the same problem as mine and pointed out the same suspect. Another related article about pop-up and pop-underads supposed again the same suspicion on rankwidget.com as the ultimate source.

For those who have no idea what are pop-ups and pop-underads, here's a little explanation of what are these.

By Wikipedia:
Pop-up ads or pop-ups are a form of online advertising on the World Wide Web intended to attract web traffic or capture email addresses. It works when certain web sites open a new web browser window to display advertisements. The pop-up window containing an advertisement is usually generated by JavaScript, but can be generated by other means as well.

A variation on the pop-up window is the pop-under advertisement, which opens a new browser window hidden under the active window. Pop-unders do not interrupt the user immediately and are not seen until the covering window is closed, making it more difficult to determine which web site opened them.

I suspect then that rankwidget.com is not the only which runs hidden ads which might caught us unaware making our sites annoying and unfriendly to our visitors. Be careful then with widgets installed to your sites. You wouldn't want your site to be disturbing to you and to your web-visitors. Moreover, you don't want your site to be banned from communities like the Entrecard.

I have removed my rankwidget.com widget. I hope the pop-ups will be gone. I am sad why such sites run hidden ads which could be annoying and alarming to you as a blogger. So if you have the same problem , check if have rankwidget.com in your blog to rank your Google PR, alexa or technorati, just remove it to make your blog more visitor friendly and pop-ups free and if pop-ups still come check the other widgets you have placed in your blog.
